Two Motivational Stories of Bahlol

A Baghdadi merchant was sitting in a ship with his slave and they were going to Basra. Bahlol and some other people were also on the same ship. The slave started crying because he was afraid of the turbulent movement of ship. All the passengers were worried about this.

Bahlol consulted the master of slave and sought his permission to silence him. The merchant agreed. Bahlol immediately ordered the slave to be thrown into the sea. His order was followed. When the slave was near death, he was rescued. After this experience, the slave sat quietly in a corner of the ship.

The passengers asked Bahlol why this act silenced the slave. Bahlol replied: The slave did not know how comfortable this ship was or what its greatness and value was. When he was thrown into the sea, he found the ship to be a comfortable and relaxing place.

Once Bahlol Dana was sitting in an oasis. A trader passed by that place. He came to Bahlol, greeted him, sat in front of him politely and politely requested: Huzur! Which type of goods should I buy which are very profitable?

Bahlol said: Buy the black cloth.

The businessman thanked him and walked away.

He went and bought all the black cloth available in the area.

A few days later, a noble man of the city died.

The whole city went out in search of black cloth for the mourning. Now the merchant had all the cloth in stock, he started selling it at exorbitant prices and made as much profit as he had never made in his entire life. This made him very rich.

After some time, he passed by somewhere on a horse and Bahlol was staying there.

The merchant while sitting on the horse said:

Oh crazy! What should I do now?

Bahlol said: Buy the watermelons.

He ran away and used all his wealth to buy and store watermelons from all over the country.

Now he waited for people to come to buy watermelons from him. But time passed and no one came to buy watermelons.

After a few days, all his watermelons got spoiled and he became a poor.

He met Bahlol while walking around in this miserable state, and he said: What have you done to me?

Bahlol said: Not I, but all this was done by your tone and words.

When you asked politely, you became rich and when you were arrogant, you became poor.

Someone has said the truth: The cost of Discipline is always less than the price of Regret.
