Jalebi
An English
scientist visiting Pakistan was struck by the vibrant sights and sounds of the
local markets.
One day, as he
was strolling through a bustling street, he stumbled upon a shop selling
Jalebi, a popular sweet that’s known for its crisp, golden coils soaked in
sugary syrup.
Intrigued, he
couldn’t help but marvel at how such a simple dessert could take its unique
shape. What truly baffled him, though, was how the syrup seemed to magically
seep inside the crispy layers, creating the perfect balance of sweetness and
crunch.
Fascinated by
this, the scientist decided to take some Jalebi back to his home country. He
carefully packed 1 kilogram of the sweet treat and brought it to his
laboratory, eager to uncover its secret.
Once back, he
rushed to show his senior colleague, hoping to embark on a scientific
investigation to unravel the mystery of how the syrup was absorbed into the
crispy loops of Jalebi.
However, the
senior scientist didn’t share the same enthusiasm. With an exasperated sigh, he
opened his drawer and pulled out a Samosa, another beloved snack from Pakistan.
Holding it up,
he said, "Have you come from Pakistan just to bring me more mysteries?
I’ve been trying to figure out for five years how the potato stuffing gets
inside this Samosa, and I still haven’t cracked it! Now, you've brought me a
new challenge with this Jalebi!"
Both scientists
stared at their respective snacks, realizing sometimes, some questions are
better left unsolved, and some mysteries might just be too delicious to
question further.
Cunning of a Woman
A thirsty
traveler, weary from his journey, finally arrived at a well. As he approached,
he noticed a woman filling her pitcher with water. Grateful for the chance to
drink, the traveler took some water from her and, with a curious look, asked,
"O kind woman, what do you know about the cunning of women?"
The moment the
woman heard his question, her demeanor changed. She suddenly began to scream in
distress, her voice echoing through the village. Alarmed, the traveler panicked
and quickly asked, "Why are you shouting? What have I done wrong?"
With a fearful
look, the woman replied, "The villagers will hear me and think you’ve
wronged me. They will come after you!" Terrified that he might be in
serious trouble, the traveler folded his hands in a pleading gesture and said,
"Forgive me, I meant no harm. You seem so good, compassionate, and noble.
I never intended to offend you."
The woman
listened to him, and with a swift movement, she poured an entire pitcher of
water over herself, soaking her clothes completely. Not long after, a group of
villagers arrived, looking concerned.
The woman
explained, "I fell into the well, and this kind man saved me from
drowning!" The villagers, relieved and thankful, praised the traveler for
his bravery and kindness.
As the crowd
began to disperse, the woman leaned in close to the traveler and whispered,
"Remember this: if you ever harm a woman, she will take away your
happiness. But if you treat her with kindness and respect, she will save you,
even from the jaws of death."
The traveler,
deeply moved by her words, walked away with a newfound respect for the wisdom
and strength of women.
Justice with Two Wives
Once there was
a man who married two women and always treated them with great fairness and
justice. He made sure that neither wife felt neglected, and he tried to balance
his duties towards them with utmost care.
Tragically, one
day, both of his wives passed away at the same time. Feeling deeply sorrowful
yet determined to maintain fairness, the husband decided that he would treat
them with equal respect even in death.
He wanted both
of them to be bathed at the same time, so he arranged for two women to prepare
their bodies for the ritual. Once that was done, the man decided he would take
both bodies out of the house for burial at the same time, ensuring that his
actions remained just and equal.
However, there
was only one door in the house, and he realized that both bodies couldn't exit
at the same time through that narrow entrance. So, he called for a new door to
be made, so that both wives could be taken out simultaneously.
Once the new
door was created, he carried both bodies out at once and buried them side by
side. He praised Allah Almighty for granting him the strength to be just and
fair in his actions, feeling proud of how he had handled everything.
That night,
however, the man had a strange dream. He saw his first wife, who spoke to him
with a stern expression. "I am angry with you," she said. "Allah
will not forgive you."
Confused and
worried, the man asked, "But why, my dear? I did everything fairly and
justly. I treated you both equally!"
The wife
replied, "You took my body out of the old door, but you took the second
wife's body out of the new door. That was not just."
The husband
woke up with a deep sense of regret. Despite his efforts to maintain fairness,
he had unknowingly overlooked something that his first wife felt was a slight.
He understood then that justice wasn’t just about actions, but also about the
little details that matter in the eyes of others.
