Motivational Story in English

Fear, Trauma and Negative Thinking

In the United States, there was once a prisoner who had been sentenced to death. His fate seemed sealed, but a group of scientists saw an unusual opportunity. They proposed conducting an experiment on him before carrying out the execution, seeking to explore the limits of the human mind and body.

The prisoner was informed of his new fate: he wouldn’t be executed by hanging as originally planned. Instead, he was told he would die by the bite of a highly venomous cobra. The scientists brought in a large cobra and placed it in front of him, making sure he saw it clearly. To heighten his fear, they blindfolded him and tied him to a chair, leaving his imagination to fill in the gaps.

But here’s the twist: no cobra actually bit him. Instead, the scientists used two sharp safety pins to lightly prick his skin, simulating the sensation of a snakebite. The prisoner, convinced beyond doubt that the deadly snake had bitten him, reacted in sheer terror.

To everyone’s astonishment, within seconds, the prisoner collapsed and died. The scientists conducted an autopsy, and the results were shocking. They found venom in his body—venom similar to that of a snake. But where did it come from, given that no real snake had bitten him?

The answer lay within the prisoner himself. The intense trauma and fear he experienced triggered his body to release such a high level of stress hormones and toxic chemicals that it effectively mimicked the effects of snake venom, ultimately taking his life.

From this harrowing experiment, the scientists concluded that the human mind holds incredible power over the body. Our thoughts and beliefs can shape our physical reality to a profound degree, for better or for worse.

A Lesson for Life

This story carries an important lesson about the impact of our thoughts and emotions. Studies show that a staggering 75% of illnesses are caused or worsened by negative thinking. Dwelling on fear, anger, or despair can wreak havoc on our mental and physical health. On the other hand, cultivating positive thoughts and happiness can lead to a healthier, more fulfilling life.

A Reminder About Perspective

Life is often governed by how much we concern ourselves with the opinions of others. Here’s a thought-provoking perspective:

  • Until the age of 25, we’re too busy enjoying life to care what others think of us.
  • Between 25 and 50, we live in constant fear of judgment, worrying endlessly about how we’re perceived.
  • After 50, we come to a startling realization: no one was really thinking about us at all.

So, why waste your life on negativity or fear of judgment? Instead, choose positivity, happiness, and the freedom to live life on your own terms. Your thoughts have power—use them wisely.
