A Guest and a Stick
The people of a village
were very hospitable. If any guest came to their village, they used to pay a
lot of respect. Once a visitor came to their village. The villagers put various
kinds of food on the table in front of him. At the same time, a big stick was
placed. The guest was very happy to see the food, but was scared to see the
stick.
Asked the hosts: Why is
this stick kept?
They said: This is our
tradition. Don't be afraid and start eating. But the guest kept his word to
first inform me about the reality of this stick.
The hosts swore that they
would not harm you, but the guest refused to eat. He was afraid that after
feeding, these people would beat me with this stick.
On hearing the refusal of
the guest to eat, the whole village broke into a frenzy.
An old man was brought to
the guest to explain the reality of the stick. The old man got angry seeing the
stick and said they don't have such a long stick. Lower it by three feet. The stick
was immediately lowered three feet, but the guest still refused to eat. The stick
was still five feet long.
The villagers were very
worried. Another elderly man who would be ninety years old was brought. They
also got excited seeing the length of the stick. He said that they keep the
stick according to the length of an arm, reduce it.
The stick was cut to the
size of an arm. Now the guest was not afraid of the stick, but his curiosity
remained that what is the real truth of this stick?
Finally, an old man whose
hair was white up to his eyebrows and eyelids was brought. When he saw the
stick, he got angry and said: A straw is kept in the cup so that if any fiber
of meat remains in the guest's teeth, he can remove it.
Knowing the reality of the
stick, the guest breathed a sigh of relief, ate his fill and thanked the
villagers and went on his way.
Ek Atithi Aur Ek Danda
Ek gaanv ke log bahut
mehamaananavaaj the. Unake gaanv mein koee bhee mehamaan aata tha to ve khoob
aadar-satkaar karate the. Ek baar usake gaanv mein ek mehamaan aaya. gaanv
vaalon ne usake saamane tarah-tarah ka khaana tebal par rakh diya. saath hee ek
bada sa danda rakh diya. Mehamaan khaana dekhakar bahut khush hua, lekin danda
dekhakar dar gaya.
Yajamaanon se poochha: Yah
danda kyon rakha hai?
Unhonne kaha: yah hamaaree
parampara hai. Daro mat aur khaana shuroo karo.
kuchh bigaad denge.
Mehamaan ke khaane se mana
karane par poore gaanv mein koharaam mach gaya.
Atithi ke paas ek vrddh ko
laathiyon kee asaliyat samajhaane ke lie laaya gaya. Laathee dekhakar bujurg
naaraaj ho gae aur kaha ki itanee lambee chhadee hamaare paas nahin hai. Ise teen
pheet kam karen. Dande ko turant teen pheet neeche utaara gaya, lekin mehamaan
Graameen kaaphee chintit
the. Ek aur bujurg aadamee jo nabbe saal ka hoga laaya gaya. Chhadee kee
lambaee dekhakar ve bhee uttejit ho uthe. Unhonne kaha ki haath kee lambaee ke
hisaab se danda rakhate hain, kam kar dete hain.
Danthal ko ek chhadee ke
aakaar mein kaata gaya.
jigyaasa banee rahee ki aakhir is chhadee ka asalee sach kya hai?
Ant mein ek vrddh vyakti
ko laaya gaya jisake baal usakee bhauhon aur palakon tak saphed the. Jab unhonne
laathee dekhee to ve gir pade aur boleh pyaale mein ek tinaka isalie rakha
jaata hai ki atithi ke daant mein yadi maans ka koee resha rah jae to vah use
nikaal de.
Laathee kee hakeekat
jaanakar atithi ne raahat kee saans lee, bharapet khaaya aur graameenon ko
dhanyavaad dekar apane raaste chala gaya.
