Real Life Story in English
Wise Engineer of Taj Mahal
Shah Jahan, the
king of India, was known for his love of grand and magnificent buildings. His
legacy includes the Shah Jahani Mosque in Thatta, the Red Fort in Delhi, and,
of course, the Taj Mahal, which is considered one of the most beautiful
buildings in the world.
When Shah Jahan
decided to build the Taj Mahal as a tomb for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal,
engineers created several designs for the structure. Legend has it that one
night, the king dreamed of a tomb that he found to be absolutely perfect.
Coincidentally, one of the engineer's designs turned out to be exactly what he
had envisioned. And so, the Taj Mahal was born.
However, the
engineer knew that such an ambitious project would require a huge investment of
both time and money. Fearing that Shah Jahan might become overwhelmed and
abandon the idea, the engineer secretly attempted to warn him.
Despite his
concerns, when the king ordered the construction to proceed, the engineer
demanded an advance payment of several million rupees. In those days, money
wasn’t in notes but in heavy bags of coins, which were handed over to the
engineer.
To the king's
surprise, the next day the engineer took these bags, loaded them onto a boat,
and threw them into the Yamuna River. He repeated this action the following
day. Word of this reached the king, and he became furious, summoning the
engineer for an explanation.
When the king
confronted him, he asked, "Why did you throw those bags of money into the
river?"
The engineer,
calm and confident, replied, “Don’t misunderstand me, Your Majesty. To build
something as magnificent as the Taj Mahal, you must be willing to spend and
work hard. I wanted you to truly feel the weight of the cost and effort
involved. Those bags were not filled with money—they were filled with stones.
Your money is safe.”
Embarrassed by
the engineer’s wisdom and patience, Shah Jahan promised never to interfere
again. With determination, hard work, and the king’s support, the Taj Mahal was
eventually completed—a symbol of love, dedication, and perseverance.
The story of
the Taj Mahal reminds us that great achievements require courage, commitment,
and the willingness to take risks.
