Bank of England Vault – The Safe Place to Store Gold

Do you have any idea how much gold is in the Bank of England?

BBC News was given access to the bank's underground vault. However, due to tight security, they were unable to cover most parts. According to your statistics, like the famous movie "The Italian Job", if an attempt is made to steal here, it will take four thousand minutes.

These gold bricks are beautiful to look at, but there is nothing you can do about them. So why are they so valuable? One reason for this is that they are rare and their supply is limited and cannot be replicated. This gold is here because of its value and its importance globally. The gold in this vault is imported from different countries. The Bank of England has 400,000 gold bricks. They are worth 200 billion pounds. They could make a billion rings and if they were made of gold foil, they could cover the whole of Britain six times. At today's price, a brick costs about 475,000 pounds. Most bricks are trapezoidal in shape which makes them easy to lift. But gold bricks from the United States are rectangular in shape.

The Federal Reserve Bank building in New York is built on a rocky area so bricks can be placed up and down there. Because the Bank of England building is built on clay and has a weight limit, gold bricks are placed on pallets. During World War II, a canteen was built for workers in this basement. All the gold in London was temporarily transferred to the Bank of Canada in Ottawa. The site was used as a shelter from air strikes. It had a canteen, beds and a billiards table. Gold has not been stolen from the bank since its inception in 1694.
