Motivational Story in English
Locusts' Attack on Syria
During World
War I, locusts swarmed through Syria, devastating orchards and crops. This
invasion led to a terrible famine, and many lives were lost, both human and
animal.
In the village
of Daria, however, there was one man's garden that remained untouched. Despite
the locusts ravaging everything else, his plants stayed healthy and fresh.
Naturally, the villagers became suspicious and complained to the authorities,
claiming the man had a secret pesticide that he wasn’t sharing.
The government
sent a troop of soldiers to investigate. The officer approached the man, whip
in hand, and demanded, "Why did you keep this pesticide a secret from the
people and the government?"
The man calmly
replied, "Everyone knows about the medicine I used, but no one is willing
to use it."
Curious, the
officer pressed, "What is this medicine?"
The man
answered, "It is Zakat."
The officer was
puzzled and asked, "Can locusts tell the difference between those who pay
Zakat and those who don’t?"
"Yes,"
the man replied. "Try it yourself."
The soldiers
then watched as the locusts, released into the garden, fled immediately.
The man then
shared a Hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon
Him): “Protect your property with Zakat, treat the sick with charity, and
humble yourself before Allah to avoid misfortune.”
Indeed, Zakat had
safeguarded the man's garden from the locusts, protecting it from harm.
This story
serves as a reminder for us to give Zakat to those in need, as it is a way to
seek Allah’s protection, especially during difficult times, such as the
Coronavirus pandemic. May Allah guide us and keep us safe. Ameen.
